AGM & CPD Event Report
The 2021 AGM of the Geelong Regional Engineers Group was held on 28th April at Capri Receptions in Geelong West. Twenty members & guests attended the AGM followed by dinner and a presentation; “Lift Off - Exploring Decision Making” by Brett Mahar.
Brett delivered an insightful and interactive presentation that explored the decision making processes, organisational behaviours and challenges that led to the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003.
Attendees were taken through some of the decisions made by the engineering team and senior management after a launch incident.
It is easy to look at the evidence of this tragedy and say, how stupid could they be, but it takes a brief period of reflection to identify similarities in any workplace.
Thanks to Bernard Chen and co. for making it happen and to the new members who have joined the committee, especially the two student liaison members. Also, a big thank you to those retiring committee members, Mark & David. Well done to all.
