James Harrison’s 1857 Ice-making Machine

The Royal Geelong Agricultural & Pastoral Society (RGAPS) and The Geelong & Region Branch of The National Trust (GRBNT)

Engineer and model-maker Mr Warwick Bryce is visiting Geelong to demonstrate his working model of James Harrison’s 1857 commercial ice-making machine for the French documentary maker Mr. Basile Roze. He works for French ARTE TV and is filming a story about James Harrison (the Father of Refrigeration) and his Geelong invention.

Warwick has kindly offered to demonstrate his machine making ice for other interested people at the RGAPS Geelong Showgrounds Museum on Tuesday 21 March 2023, 1.30-2.30 pm.

The ARTE TV programme Invitation au Voyage is an exciting opportunity for some of Geelong’s design credentials as Australia’s UNESCO City of Design to be shown to a wide international audience.

Invitation au Voyage provides the ‘daily cultural and discovery rendezvous of the ARTE channel,’ offering its audience ’the opportunity to discover 3 exceptional destinations through different perspectives: culture, art, history, customs… The aim of our programme is to encourage our audience to travel and visit each destination in an educated way’.

We look forward to seeing you at the RGAPS Showgrounds Museum. Refer here for the invitation details.
